Four and a half months ago, I flew to Istanbul, Turkey by myself to undergo an Asian ethnic rhinoplasty performed by the skilled hands of Dr. Niyazi Altintoprak. The use of rib cartilage has provided structural integrity to my new nose, and I am thrilled with the outcome. I had the option to use cadaver cartilage which meant I wouldn’t have a rib incision, but I am SO glad I went with my own cartilage. I don’t mind the scar at all. It’s literally hidden under my boob lol like no one but my boyfriend is seeing it anyway.
Loving My Nose: Reduced Swelling and Stitch Removal
During the initial two months post-surgery, swelling was expected and was definitely more noticeable. However, I am delighted to report that the swelling has significantly subsided, and I now notice it only on rare occasions. Typically, it occurs when I indulge in alcohol, neglect proper hydration, or consume excessive salt. Other than that, I don’t notice much swelling or puffiness at all, which is surprising because everyone says it takes up to one year to see full results. I’m already so happy with the results so far at 4.5 months post-op!
Moreover, I’m thrilled to share that my last two stubborn stitches have finally fallen off omgggg, marking another huge milestone in my recovery journey. The healing process has been gradual but steady, and I am now focused on addressing the scars left behind by the procedure.
Managing Scarring: A Journey to Smooth Skin
Understandably, scars are a natural part of any surgical procedure, and I have two to manage. Firstly, the scar under my nose requires special attention, and I am currently searching for a reliable scar cream to minimize its appearance. Thank you to everyone on TikTok who recommended scar creams and silicone gel/patches!! Additionally, the red and present scar from the rib incision will also benefit from the wonders of microneedling, which I am considering for both scars in the near future.
Embracing Even Swelling and Irresistible Confidence
Uneven swelling was a minor concern during the recovery process, but I am pleased to share that it has now resolved entirely. If you’re going through a rhinoplasty journey right now and are experiencing uneven swelling, trust the process!! Not going to lie, I was initially worried because my nose looked uneven during the first-second month post-op but my nose has now taken on a beautifully balanced appearance.
A World of Compliments: Loved Ones and Results
The positive feedback from my loved ones has been the cherry on top of this entire experience. Both my parents and my co-workers have noticed the remarkable transformation and continually comment on how great my nose looks. Even my boyfriend has been incredibly supportive and appreciative of the results. He was like I originally didn’t know how much of a difference they could do because he liked my old nose, but he said the doctor did an incredible job and he absolutely loves my new nosey!
